Once in a while, I like to poke my head behind the web stats curtain and take a look at what the wizard is doing behind the scenes. Today, I found an interesting trend that I need to share.
It seems that - visitors to this blog who come via twitter have a 10% lower average bounce rate.
For those who aren’t SEO inclined, bounce rate is the percentage of users that come to a site and immediately go to another site.
How I interpret this, is that my twitter followers are already actively engaged in conversation with me. They click through because they’re interested in what I have to say, and they look around more.
This is highly significant if you are trying to build a brand using social media. Why? Becuase the idea of engagment, and trust building are paramount. Also, I’ll assume that the click throughs from Twitter are probably targeted since I blog about the same topics I tweet about.
Twitter, for me, is much more than a new stump to yell a sales pitch from, but a way to quickly build relationships, gather great information, and meet new people.
Remember the “social” aspect of social media and you’ll do great.
